Water Hygiene in Hotels,
automatically documented
Vacant rooms are a major risk factor of drinking water hygiene in hotels. Where no one showers for several days, the water stagnates and favours the growth of Legionella. Here you will find your operator obligations, the flushing intervals and the path to complete, gapless documentation.
Changing occupancy
Every week different rooms stand empty. By hand, hardly anyone reliably knows which ones need flushing this week.
Entire wings standing empty
In the off-season, whole floors go unused for weeks. That is exactly where the water stagnates the longest.
Unannounced inspection
When the inspection comes, the flushing record must be complete and ready right away, not pieced together at the last minute.
Operator obligations under the Drinking Water Ordinance
As the operator of a drinking water system in a hotel, you are subject to the German Drinking Water Ordinance, in practice usually through facility management. It requires regular testing for Legionella and that the flushing intervals are kept. The technical action value is 100 CFU per 100 ml; if it is reached or exceeded, notification to the public health authority, cause investigation and remediation follow.
Whether it ends in a fine or a clearance is ultimately decided by complete, gapless documentation that your flushing intervals were met. That is exactly what Aqvior delivers automatically, with a timestamp for every flush.
How often Legionella testing is required →The 72-hour flushing requirement
If a water exchange fails to happen for more than 72 hours, it counts as an operational interruption. With fluctuating occupancy, this affects different rooms every week, and hardly anyone reliably knows which.

Flushing by hand costs time, water and energy
Today someone walks from room to room and runs the showers by hand. That ties up many staff hours every month, and it is easy to miss a room or forget to note it down.
And nobody really knows how much water and energy this uses. Aqvior flushes only when a room actually needs it, measures every flush and logs it, so you finally see the real consumption and keep the documentation complete without lifting a finger.

Detects
The surface-mounted shower fitting detects when a shower was last used. Without any staff having to keep count.
Flushes
After 72 hours it flushes on its own. It powers itself via a turbine from the water flow, needs no power connection and no bathroom renovation.
Documents
Every flush lands in the dashboard with a timestamp. The proof for the inspection is thus complete and available at the touch of a button.
What hotel operators often ask
Responsibility lies with the operator of the drinking water installation. Without proper documentation, fines of up to 25,000 € per violation may apply.
No. An occupied room exchanges its water through normal use on its own. The effort arises with the vacant rooms, and reliably identifying exactly those is the real problem when done by hand.
Once the technical action value of 100 CFU/100 ml is reached or exceeded, you are required to notify the public health authority, investigate the cause and carry out remediation measures. Complete, gapless flushing documentation proves that the operator obligations were met.
For a large-scale hot water system with central hot water generation, the German Drinking Water Ordinance generally requires systemic testing for Legionella once a year. After a conspicuous finding, the public health authority may require shorter intervals.
Every draw-off point should receive a complete water exchange at least every 72 hours. In occupied rooms this happens automatically through use; in vacant rooms Aqvior takes care of it automatically.

Information on Legionella and the associated health risks is general in nature and constitutes neither medical advice nor an assessment of a specific drinking water system.
